Bowen Therapy
The Bowen Technique involves the movement of soft tissue in a specific way. The practitioner’s moves deliver signals to the nervous system at specific locations (on muscles, tendons, ligaments, or nerves), and the body responds in its own time, within its vital capacity. The move is a “rolling-type move” where the goal is to stimulate the tissue and nerve pathways, creating a focus for the brain. The moves are gentle, but purposeful, and can be done through light clothing.
Between Bowen movements, the therapist will leave the room for approximately 2 minutes to let the body do the work. This element of allowing the body to rest for a few minutes is where the process of repair is initiated, and this is an important part of the healing. The most fundamental principle of Bowen is that it is the client that is doing the work, and for this to happen, the body needs time.
Bowen Technique is appropriate for people of all ages, in all degrees of health.
