Interesting Facts About Me

I’m a big fan of BC – taking in the views, the trails, and the wineries are some of my favourite ways to spend time.

Catching a sunset (or a sunrise if I’m feeling ambitious) is my favourite part of the day.

I love to create playlists that fit any season or experience – music means a lot to me.

Hello, I’m Emily! I am a student of the Master of Counselling program at Athabasca University and am ready and excited to complete the final portion of my degree here with Aster Wellness.

While I have always wanted to work with people, I first became interested in counselling when I was in university and accessed mental health services for the first time. I was met by a warm, welcoming counsellor who supported me through a difficult transition and helped me to figure out what it looked like to thrive amidst a chaotic season. My six years of experience in community mental health- working with people who have been navigating life transitions, challenges within their social and cultural contexts, substance use, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and more- has equipped me to contribute positively to the well-being of others. I have a passion for supporting individuals who care for people in their personal and professional lives, knowing first-hand how important it is to proactively create space for our own mental health before we can support others well.

During our time together, my aim is to empower you, in whatever season you find yourself in, to seek understanding of your experience and walk away with a compassionate perspective of the challenges of being human. I recognize that everyone is unique and has their own important story to share. You are the expert in your experiences and story, and I am here to support you along the journey. Together, we will work collaboratively on the goals you feel are important. You will notice that my work is person-centred and strengths-based, but I also integrate practices from narrative therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and mindfulness-based practices as they become relevant for you. My hope is that you would feel safe, seen, and supported in our time together.
